ALJW started as a family's desire to hold public officials accountable to the people they serve, the oaths they took, and the constitution of this great nation. After hearing about the arrest of Marcus Gallegos in November of 2025 that was the result of first amendment protected speech, we decided to hold a demonstration in the town the arrest took place. our goal was the make the public aware of the original video covering the arrest on the youtube channel "Lackluster". we didn't realize how many people would be sympathetic to Marcus's case. After meeting with Marcus and getting some more information, we decided to advocate for him and bring his arrest to the attention of the county commission. We held another demonstration on the courthouse steps on the day of Marcus's first court appearance, and we were threatened with arrest by the district attorney. Leaving the courthouse, we decided to go to the town where the arrest happened and check on our records request regarding the arresting officer. we were met with stonewalling and excuse after excuse as to why we couldn't have the records.
Our frustration with the district attorney's threat and the rejection of our records request led us to make a video covering Marcus's initial arrest and all the events afterwards. We didn't know that the video would garner as much attention as it did. Lackluster used portions of our video as an update to his original coverage, and our youtube channel was flooded with subscribers. we setup a gofundme for Marcus that ended up raising over $17,000 for his legal defense. realizing that we could actually make a difference and help people, we decided to keep the project going and bring attention to as much governmental corruption as possible. we believe that the people have the right to know how their government actually runs, and that they should be aware of how it is supposed to run.Â
We hope to help many more people in the future, and bring awareness to stories that we feel need to be told. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes.
